Preventative Dentistry

Stay ahead of problems before they start

Preventative care plays a huge role in your overall oral and physical health. The goal of every preventative visit is to catch issues at their earliest, most treatable stage.

What is preventative dentistry?

Preventative dentistry is the routine care that stops cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer at their earliest, most treatable stage. At Westborough Dental Care, every preventative visit includes a professional cleaning, full oral exam, digital X-rays when indicated, oral cancer screening, and an evidence-based home-care plan tailored to your specific risk factors.

What it costs: Adult prophylaxis is $209 UCR; comprehensive oral evaluation is $209; topical fluoride varnish is $89. Most PPO plans cover preventative visits at 100% in-network.

What preventative care includes

Cleanings (prophylaxis)

Professional cleaning twice per year removes plaque and tartar your toothbrush cannot reach.

Comprehensive exams

A thorough evaluation of teeth, gums, bite, and soft tissue, with X-rays as needed.

Oral cancer screening

Quick visual + tactile check of soft tissues at every cleaning. Early detection saves lives.

Sealants

Thin protective coatings applied to molars to prevent decay — most effective for kids and teens.

Fluoride treatment

In-office topical fluoride strengthens enamel and reduces cavity risk.

Periodontal screening

Measuring the gums around each tooth — catches gum disease before it becomes severe.

The basics still matter

Brush your teeth at least twice daily for two minutes, reaching every side of each tooth (inside and outside). Brush your tongue to keep your breath fresh.

Floss once daily. The American Dental Association recommends flossing to remove plaque that gets stuck between teeth and to clean the spots your toothbrush misses. Without flossing, you will have more problems with tartar, cavities, and gum disease.
